Experiment on Alternative Criteria for COM-FSM Admission

To get the ball rolling: When Karen Simion visited the committee meeting earlier this month, she explained why she had reservations about the proposal to 'move' a cohort of 25 students from Certificate to ACE on Pohnpei campus (see document above). Here are the reasons:
1) We don't have the resources (instructors, rooms, studying materials). The ACE program is struggling to find qualified instructors to begin with ... and who's gonna pay for it?!
2) The cohort is very specific (low reading, high math)--we may not even find 25 students with those criteria.

My own reservations include: Other campuses will ask why not us?

I am not too concern about the other campuses at this time. To be sure that an idea is workable, someone has to try it out first. My thought was that whoever proposed this chose Pohnpei Campus because it’s location and of course it will be much easier to address their issues than other sister campuses. My real concern is mainly on resources. If we are struggling with ACE program at this time, why invite more?

Well said Karleen, I think this should greatly influence our vote - lack of resources (instructors, facilities, teaching/studying materials etc). Although I think this would be a great experiment to get the ball rolling on tracking different cohorts for each program, I believe it's too early and hence the shortage/lack of means that the college is faced with. I thank Karen for shedding the light on what we all thought was a GRAND idea back then! Now we know!
