Course Description:
This semester length course introduces the challenges and opportunities in managing a small business in today’s market. The definition of the entrepreneur, types of business organizations, legal aspects, personnel management and the criteria for establishing a small business are discussed. Students will develop a simple business plan.

- Opportunities and trends for entrepreneurs
- Discussion on the various types of businesses
- Begin development of a small business plan
- Market research, choosing a product/service and forecasting revenue
- Establishment of accounting and insurance systems for the business plan
- Legal aspects of the business and choice of organization
- Location and type of product or service
- Financing needs of the business and budgeting
- Management and personnel needs of the business
