    Course Description:
    This semester length course introduces the challenges and opportunities in managing a small business in today’s market.  The definition of the entrepreneur, types of business organizations, legal aspects, personnel management and the criteria for establishing a small business are discussed.  Students will develop a simple business plan.

     

    Course Content:

    1. Define the entrepreneur, key traits and challenges
    2. Opportunities and trends for entrepreneurs
    3. Discussion on the various types of businesses
    4. Begin development of a small business plan
    5. Market research, choosing a product/service and forecasting revenue
    6. Establishment of accounting and insurance systems for the business plan
    7. Legal aspects of the business and choice of organization
    8. Location and type of product or service
    9. Financing needs of the business and budgeting
    10. Management and personnel needs of the business
