Course Description:
This semester length course introduces the challenges and opportunities in managing a small business in today’s market. The definition of the entrepreneur, types of business organizations, legal aspects, personnel management and the criteria for establishing a small business are discussed. Students will develop a simple business plan.
Course Content:
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Define the entrepreneur, key traits and challenges
- Identify Opportunities and trends for entrepreneurs
- Discuss the various types of businesses ownership
- Begin development of a small business plan
- Conduct market research, choose a product/service and forecast revenue
- Establish of accounting and insurance systems
- Understand certain legal aspects of the business and choice of organization
- Make informed decisionas related to location and type of product or service
- Understand financing needs of the business and budgeting
- Understand the management and personnel needs of the business
